I am sitting at the house watching Deadliest Catch. There are several captains and ships that you could work for on this show and it reminds of the present conversation in church literature that titles do not make the leader and positional leadership only works if you want to work for the person in that position. Just because you have a title doesn’t mean that people will follow you. In the church world, where you primarily work with volunteers, a title becomes much less important. If a volunteer decides you are a jerk he/she can pack it up and move onto the next thing.

      On the show you really get to watch the leadership styles of several leaders. Some captains are really hard on their guys. Some yell and cuss to get the job done. Some seem to have more fun than the others do. Some ships are primarily family run. I would be afraid that Phil is going to die at any point in the journey.

I am going to be at Falls Creek Student Camp this week with our Student Ministry.  You can see our shirt for camp to the left.  The theme for the week is "graze."  Falls Creek is an amazing place.  There will be more than 5,000 people at camp this week alone.  I have been coming down here for more than 8 years now and it gets better every year.  I got here a day early to set up the sound and meet the band.  Check out the band at www.upfromunder.com.  I just talked to Rich and the students are getting ready to stop in Moore for some lunch.  This week is going to be a blast.  I hope to post something here for you everyday.

One of my great passions in life is for ice cream.  I am currently eating Edy’s Vanilla Sandwich ice cream and it tastes great.  Every time we go to the store I like try a new flavor.  I used to only be a vanilla man, but something within me changed several years ago and I now like anything, but chocolate and mint together.  When I was a kid we went to Western Sizzlin’ and i took a plate, not a bowl, to the ice cream machine and loaded up on chocolate.  When I got back to the table my parents eyes were huge and so were mine when I discovered that the chocolate ice cream was actually chocolate mint.  My dad made me eat the whole thing.  Realize that Western Sizzlin’ is a buffet and I was on the dessert and you can see the predicament I was in.  To this day chocolate and mint together cause a gag reaction.  If I stay at your house, hostel, hotel, or couch please remember that I prefer a hard candy to a chocolate mint.

What flavor ice cream is in your refrigerator right now?

      After playing at the Battle of the Band at the Bricktown Ballroom in OKC I went to Braum’s with some of my friends from Waterloo Road Baptist Church.  I had a great time catching up with Marcia, Craig, Lucas, Chad, Shelby (Not Pictured), AnaLeah, Melissa, and Candace.  I miss these guys.  We had a blast and I had a cookies and cream shake.  yummy.

      I just finished reading The Big Idea by Dave Ferguson from Community Christian Church in Chicago, IL and is has me really excited to see what Arrow Heights can do in our metro area in the next year.  In 1998 Community Christian Church was the size of Arrow Heights.  Dave asked some interesting questions that I would like your input on.  Should we be a church that measures itself by the number of people who attend or by the number of people to turn their lives over to Christ?  In the eight years after 1998 CCC grew to a church of over 5,000 people and had a year where 800 people gave their lives to Christ.  I am sure that my God is big.  I mean He is huge and He promises to do more than I can even imagine He will do.  What are you asking God to do through AHBC this year?  How are you investing yourself in the process of achieving that goal?  I look forward to working along side you guys this year in helping our dreams become reality.  Please covenant to pray with me for great things to happen throughout this year.
